Please add

Please add your own thoughts on my project. It is rattling along at a fair old pace. Alex Henshaw is very pleased with the results so far. Carol and I shared another wonderful lunch with the Great Man yesterday and completed another afternoon of conversation, adding more meat to the already full bones in his trilogy of Autobiographies. On Sunday we were the guests of Dr Carl Chinn, the well known Birmingham historian, on his popular BBC radio WM programme. The programme attracted telephone calls from, among others, the hardworking Birmingham Air raids remembrance association ( BARRA) a link to their web site can be found on my links page. Thanks also to Graham Young, TV editor of The Birmingham Mail, who wrote a lovely piece, that unlike a lot of press coverage, was both supportive and accurate. Laura McWhinnie, the current headteacher at Erdington Hall School (about 400 yards from Hitlers first bomb to land in Britain), is also very supportive and as several of the young "fictional" children will attend this real life school, it is my hope that staff, parents and ofcourse children, will find themselves as background artists in the production. For me the Star writer of the BBC's magnificent Peoples War web site is Joan Sprigg. War time Joan was known as Joan Quibell. Joan has very kindly agreed to work with me as a period consultant. She is a lovely lady and I urge you all to check out her stories Joan Quibell's War Diaries. Despite working hard as an ARP first aider ( with her now sadly departed best pal, Audrey Smith), Joan wrote her diary up faithfully every day of the war. Last but not least for this update are two more bits of news. Alex great friend Tony Edwards has 22 hours of recollections by Alex on DV and I am arranging to meet him soon, to go through them. I urge also all who can get there, to attend Heartland Ford's celebration of 70 years of The Spitfire by attending their showroom next week to look at their collection of Spit memorabillia. The showroom is now adjacent to the main gate of Jaguar cars ( formerly Castle Bromwich Aero). Contact Anna Taylor on 0121 377 3000. Oh, the final bit of news? My favourite ENGLISH GENTLEMAN. The irrepressible Alex Henshaw MBE, the best solo flier England has ever produced has granted me permission to write the screenplay of his wonderful book THE FLIGHT OF THE MEW GULL. Having this book made into a movie was a fond wish of Alex beautiful Barbara, his late wife. Who am I to argue with a French Countess....I'd better get on with it!!! remember carver@zoomshare.com John@johnbarton6.wanadoo.co.uk

Sadly.
Sadly Alex' Henshaw passed peacefully away last Saturday. A man of his time, and, truly, the end of an era.
